Western Slope Adoption Caseworker/Birth Parent Counselor
Employment Status: Administrative Non-Exempt/Part-Time
Reports To: IAP Placement Supervisor/FF Placement Supervisor

Reporting to the Flexible Families (foster-to-adopt) and Infant Adoption Placement Supervisors, the Western Slope Adoption Caseworker/Birth Parent Counselor provides a variety of advanced administrative functions that support critical agency child placement services. The Adoption Caseworker/Birth Parent Counselor is responsible for coordinating significant aspects of the adoption process including but not limited to; recruitment and retention of families, family education and training, case management and facilitation, scheduling and completion of home assessments using SAFE (structured analysis family evaluation), networking and marketing of families to state agencies both in and out of Colorado, presentation of conclusions and recommendations, post placement supervision as required and the preparation, completion and distribution of all related documentation. The Adoption Caseworker/Birth Parent Counselor is also responsible for providing counseling and support to birth parents during the decision-making process, conducting formal presentations with potential adoptive families, providing post placement support, preparation and completion of all legally required documentation, and supporting outreach activities regarding Adoption Options available services. In addition, this worker must maintain up-to-date awareness of all foster care policies and procedures and participate in all State foster care audits, as well as maintain up-to-date situational awareness of all active cases, clients, processes and events.
The position requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required
- BA, BS, or BSW in the social or behavioral sciences, preferably a Master’s degree in one of these fields and a minimum of two years of human services experience
- Must possess exceptional interpersonal, presentation, time management and organizational skills
- Be trained and certified in SAFE (structured analysis family evaluation) process or, obtain SAFE certification as soon as practical post hire
- Understanding of birthparent (BP) counseling legal requirements and processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
- An analytical ability is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports and find solutions to a variety of client and agency related situations
- Consistently demonstrate an ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet the current needs of the agency, such as reprioritizing work as necessary
- Must have your own computer
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to responsibilities
- Display a willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment, support and explain rationale for decisions, include appropriate individuals in decision-making process and make decisions in a timely fashion
- Meet the attendance requirements of the job, including weekends and evenings as directed
- Must have access to reliable transportation and possess a valid unrestricted drivers’ license as frequent local travel will be required, overnight travel possible
- Work within approved budgets as established by the Executive Director

- Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes
- Intermittent physical activity including bending, reaching and prolonged periods of sitting
- Routinely lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds
- Required to work extended periods of time at a video display terminal with ongoing keyboard data entry
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor vehicle
- Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.
This position may have periodic supervisory responsibilities.
